Deep Story #107 | Grand Final | Dirty Doering

Our island epic has entered the home straight for some time now.
It is time to give the adventure around the enchanted island and
its inhabitants a worthy ending and who could be better suited
for this than the chief mystic of Katermukke himself Mister Dirty
Doering. With a clap of thunder, he will give the drama another
boost and thus elicit the secrets from the last chapter of our
long story. Fasten your seatbelts and lean back for some
top-notch entertainment which may will leave you drenched in
sweat and lost in thought. A big thank goes to the wonderful
author of this story, which has mesmerized us for such a long

I am number 3,121 and on the way to my place of work. Years of
relentless training and highly risky top-secret missions all over
the planet have made me cold and ruthless. I analyze, calculate,
adjust my actions for maximum efficiency. I am efficient. All my
Brothers and Sisters from Unit 3 are efficient. Being efficient
is our outstanding feature. I am number 3,121 and this mission is
different than any before. That's what my conditioning could feel
after the first introductory words of Unit 3.100. This mission is
unlike anything that our kind has done so far. I'm number 3.121
and next to me sitting in the belly of the carrier, are the other
one hundred numbers of my unit. Destination: a small uninhabited
island in the tropical Atlantic. Mission: not yet completely
known. But I know more. My conditioning puts the puzzle pieces
together one by one. June 2018. A investigation report in the
newspaper. After 51 weeks, the search crew of a large aircraft
found the debris of a missing passenger plane. The crash site was
said to be near a small uninhabited island in the tropical
Atlantic. My conditioning need not be as strong as it is to count
one and one together. A few days later. The same newspaper.
A less objective background report. An American yacht was
reported to be anchored in a bay on the island. Parts of the
aircraft wreckage had been dragged onto the shore. The searchers
had found remnants of an apparent simple dwelling on the edge of
the forest near the beach. In addition, several fire pits. A
few days later. A catchy tabloid leaflet. My conditioning
filters, evaluates, sorts the facts. I recognize more than most
others. I recognize many things. The report was from a notebook
of two missing tourists who allegedly had hired the yacht. Search
team members were interviewed on several pages after their return
to the Americas. Interviews and photographs in front of a scenic
picture of a wild jungle-covered island. Strange sounds and
lights were reported to have been registered shortly before
departure. A bad feeling descended upon everyone and overshadowed
their last hours on the island...
