The Gayatri Mantra, “Om Bhur Bhuvah Swah,” is one of the most
sacred mantras chanted by new yoga teacher during a saturday
evening satsang at Yoga Vidya www.yoga-vidya.de in Bad Meinberg,
Germany. It is a Vedic mantra and is said to contain the essence
of the Vedas. The Gayatri Mantra is addressed to Savitri. Savitri
is the radiant one, the luminous one. Savitri also stands for,
one might say, greatness, and also for “driving force.” Savitri
is also the name of the sun deity.

The mantra

Om Bhur Bhuvah Svaha

Tat Savitur Varenyam

Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi /

Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayat //
