Could the key to climate resilience and food security lie in
empowering women and managing wetlands wisely, using a
combination of traditional knowledge and AI? In episode #113 of
CARE in Action on the occasion of World Food Day, host Andrea
Barschdorf-Hager talks with Dr. Musonda Mumba, Secretary
General of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. From her childhood
in Zambia’s “lifelines” to leading global conservation, Dr. Mumba
explains why wetlands are essential for food security, climate
action (they store vast amounts of carbon), and disaster
resilience. She unpacks Ramsar’s “wise use” approach with vivid
examples - Mangroves that protect coasts and livelihoods, lessons
from Mozambique’s floods, and restoration along the Danube - and
highlights CARE’s long-term resilience work in Mozambique. A
powerful thread runs through the conversation: women as
changemakers. The "CARE in Action"-Podcast is sponsored by CC
