From Machiavelli and Karl Marx until today, Christ’l de
Landtsheer shows the development of the impact of political
thinkers and political science on society over the centuries. So,
what has changed since the times when political communication
came in the form of paintings and tapestries? And what role can
political science and civic education play today for democracy
vis à vis a growing tendency towards right-wing populism? What is
needed to re-instate a positive impact of political science on
society? Listen to Christ’l de Landtsheer’s insights from decades
of critical observation of politics and political science.

Prof. Dr. Christ’l de Landtsheer, emeritus professor of the
University of Antwerp, Belgium, is the editor of the journal
Politics, Culture, and Socialization.
