Burn out: What journalist hasn't experienced it at some point or
other? It's ubiquitous in the media industry, because it's a
product of our current industry culture. But it doesn't have to
be. That's the message shared by Mar Cabra, the founder of The
Self-Investigation, a global nonprofit focused on creating a
healthier work culture in the media industry by establishing
well-being and mental health as a business strategy and value.
Mar won a Pulitzer Prize for her work on the Panama Papers but
totally burned out in the process, reaching a personal low point
even as her career was at an all-time high. The experience led
her to leave journalism. Now, with The Self-Investigation, she
advocates for nothing less than a mental health revolution in
media. Mar shares practical insights, suggestions and a framework
for better mental health leadership in this episode of the b°
future podcast – your podcast for journalism and constructive
dialogue, brought to you by the Bonn Institute.

The non-profit Bonn Institute addresses the media industry's
growing need for networking and knowledge exchange on
constructive and user-centered approaches to journalism. Through
applied research, publications, events and training, the
institute aims to further develop journalism by placing people’s
interests at the heart of our work, which is especially important
in light of societal challenges.
