Dress for the Slide not for the Ride with Lucy Blondel

Lucy, a veterinary doctor, has battled a mystery disease
for a number of years. She saw 55 specialists before finding
answers. Women are not taken seriously in healthcare, and it took
a long time to find the truth and the solution. 


Lucy found a very special hobby, riding bikes, that
connected her with Carol. An accident left her in the hospital,
but it didn’t take long for her to get back to
riding.

Lucy Blondel Bio:





Lucy didn't always dream of racing, she dreamed of walking.
Of being able to put one foot in front of the other and move in
any direction, at any speed. For a period of time, even that
seemed impossible for her.





In 2012, only two short years after moving to Canada from
Scotland, she was diagnosed with Lyme disease. The "great
imitator" it's called. The course of my disease mimicked MS,
lupus, brain cancer, and chronic fatigue. It left her in
excruciating pain, often with paralysis encompassing the left
side of her body. She lost the ability to speak normally and
often felt like she was having a stroke. After seeing over 50
specialists, including a few in the UK, trialing over 30
different drugs, and being informed it was probably mental (and
that she was probably a little crazy) Lucy investigated and
eventually treated herself. (She is a veterinary surgeon).





As the months went by, she got stronger, but couldn't help
but feel like something was missing. Where was the adventure she
had dreamed about when she was sick? The excitement? Despite
everything she had overcome, she wanted more. And then, 3.5 years
ago, she got on a bike.





Within minutes I knew it was going to change my life
(spoiler: it has). It was instant chemistry and not an ounce of
fear. Within 9 months of getting her license, Lucy participated
in her first track day.
