The sixth Frankfurt Digital Finance & European Fintech Day
took place on the 12-13 February 2025, under the motto “It’s time
to act, Europe!”. This year’s event focused on growth strategies
for the European financial industry and explored key tech trends,
including artificial intelligence, open finance, payments,
electronic securities, crypto, and digital assets. As part of the
conference, we had the opportunity to host a panel on Open
Finance, a topic of increasing relevance given recent
developments. The EU Council Presidency has decided to keep FIDA
(Financial Data Access Regulation) on the agenda for the European
Commission’s 2025 work program, reinforcing the strategic
importance of financial data access in shaping the future of
Europe’s financial sector. Our panel “Open Finance – EU
Regulation as a Lever for Business Models” was moderated by
Nicola Breyer, Open Finance & Data Expert and Former Managing
Director of Qwist. Together with our panelists Norbert
Broeckmann, Group Strategy at DZ BANK, Szabolcs Toth, Financial
Services Attaché at Permanent Representation of Hungary to the
EU, Alexander Grigorean, Market Head of Germany at additive, Dr.
Verena Ritter-Döring, Partner at Taylor Wessing Germany, and
Christopher Schmitz, Partner EMEIA Financial Services at EY, we
discussed the implications of FIDA’s implementation. What are the
key factors for FIDA’s success, and how important are
partnerships and ecosystem building in this context? Furthermore,
how can FIDA be leveraged to create real value beyond merely
fulfilling compliance requirements? Our experts explored the
major developments surrounding FIDA from multiple perspectives.
