  4. 106. The Root Causes of Hypothyroidism with Dr. Amie Hornaman and Karen Martel
Join Karen Martel and myself in this deep dive, collaborative
episode on the main culprits of the root causes of hypothyroidism.
When getting to the root cause of each patient's hypothyroidism,
it's like peeling off layers of an onion. We start with proper
lab testing including a full thyroid panel and peel away the onion
from there. Even if you are on the right medication, you should be
aware of other factors or root causes that can still affect your
quality of life. When addressed, it can actually help your thyroid
meds work better. Areas of the onion we peel back when looking for
root causes of hypothyroidism include: mold, toxic heavy metals,
EBV, Lyme Disease, hormones including estrogen dominance and
deficiency , insulin resistance, gut health, nutrient deficiencies,
and liver support. This is the list you would have to go through to
find that culprit of your root cause and there could be a
combination of these causes. They are all interconnected. If you
