Welcome to our newest podcast episode featuring the DLR -
Institut für Systemleichtbau and its DLR Innovation Lab EmpowerAX
of Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V.

Your host today is Ilkay Özkisaoglu, Co-Founder of Composites
Lounge and after circling back to our grand interviews that we
already conducted during JEC World 2024 and ILA Berlin -
Pioneering Aerospace, we have more details for you.

My guests are Maik Titze who will explain you why lightweight
technologies require system designing in future and will
introduce you to the new departments of DLR - Institut für
Systemleichtbau in the field of innovation and
sustainability.

Developing the full sustainability potential of lightweight
system construction is the main goal of the institutes new
department "Sustainability Technologies". Dr. Steffen Opitz will
introduce you to this new department and the exciting topics
being researched here.

These have not only been set-up to further develop circularity,
but Karina Kroos will underscore the ambitious goals that have
been formulated.

Anyone who is in component manufacturing requires life cycle
assessment. Sabrina Diniz will elaborate on this strategic topic
that considers the current framework and conditions of DIN EN ISO
14040.

These and more are the topics that you can immerse yourself in
during the stage programme, which will be presented by various
internal and external speakers at the DLR - Institut für
Systemleichtbau Wissenschaftstag on the topic of "Sustainability
and Resource efficiency through lightweight systems" on 26
September 2024. Steffen Opitz will name the highlights of this
exciting day for you and will explain how you can be part of
it.

We will then dive into the topic of "Quality assurance and
sustainability in fibre-reinforced 3D printing" together. This is
the topic of this year's EmpowerAX Day of the DLR Innovation Lab
EmpowerAX on 25 September 2024.

Here we will find out why the topics of quality assurance and
recycling in fibre-reinforced 3D printing are still associated
with a number of challenges. Jan-Uwe R. S. is the expert on these
topics.

We will be rethinking the topic of recycling with Souvik
Chakraborty, PhD and Dr.-Ing. Robert Hein will explain how
simulation can assist both in process and quality
management.

Last, but not least I will be asking Xenia Sophia Köneke to run
us one more time through this exciting day that she organizes
with her team and most importantly what you as a participant can
expect besides state-of-the-art technical know-how from Germany's
flagship aerospace centre.

Your take away from this podcast will be knowledge on the latest
sustainability technologies and fibre-reinforced 3D printing that
will be presented in much more detail from 25-26 September
2024.
