the fast-moving, dark-chocolate-colored waters.

intention of grabbing onto branches about 200 meters downstream
for a safe exit. But fate had other plans when they encountered a
whirlpool of epic proportions.

In a terrifying moment, Michael got sucked into the whirlpool's
vortex, and what followed was a life-and-death struggle against
the dark and tumultuous waters. Michael's desperate fight for
survival included gasping for air in stormwater, an act that
defied his mother's warnings not to swim in floodwaters.
