“False Promises” is an audio feature by the
Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung and the INKOTA-netzwerk about the
Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA). AGRA set out to
transform the agricultural systems on the African continent with
their input-intensive agriculture – the initiative’s aim was to
increase the yields of staple crops by 100 percent by 2020–21.
Furthermore, the incomes of 30 million small-scale food producers
were to be doubled, and hunger halved in 20 African countries.
Was AGRA's “Green Revolution” successful on the African
continent? What are the consequences of AGRA for small-scale food
producers in the initiative’s 13 African focus countries? And are
there alternatives to AGRA? The audio feature addresses these and
other questions comprising perspectives from Germany, Mali, the
US, and Zambia. The audio feature is based on the study “False
Promises: The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa” that was
recently published in German and English. It can be downloaded on
the website of the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung at
www.rosalux.de/en/agra. The study is jointly published by: Biba
(Kenya), Bread for the World (Germany), FIAN Germany, Forum on
the Environment and Development (Germany), INKOTA-netzwerk
