#12 HerMusicWorld Podcast with Kaitie Sly Zoey Zoley in
conversation with bassist, singer, songwriter, sound artist
and music educator Kaitie Sly Every so often I experience those
fateful moments, checking randomly Musicians in Berlin Facebook
group posts. There it was, a shoutout by Bass player Kaitie Sly who
was currently staying in Berlin as an artist in residence, creating
an underwater spatial sound experience. She announced her stay in
Berlin and suggested to meet to either create music together,
elaborate on music or just hang out in general. I was hooked
instantly, contacted her and there she was sitting in my kitchen
the same day.   We went from one topic to the next, sharing
with us her experiences as a musician, being an introvert as well
as a woman in the music industry. How she came to play the bass and
what she appreciates about it, though in hindsight, having a little
regret that she didn't keep up with playing the piano.  I am
in awe, of her wise words to conquer challenges by speaking the
truth without the ego but with knowing your self-worth and having
self-respect.  She describes herself as a dynamic,
multifaceted person and with that energy, she truly flowed into so
many experiences that shaped her. Next to being a professional bass
player, she wrote educational books on how to play the bass, was a
podcast host talking about the voice, writes music as a singer
& songwriter and sound artist.  She also enjoys being
physically active, believing that taking care of your well-being is
essential to a life of a musician. One of her favorite activities
in this regard is listening to Metal Music while jogging. She hopes
to see positive changes in the music industry. Interns should be
paid, no more pay to play gigs. More women in one band being more
common, more room for fringe music and inclusion of musicians from
marginalized groups and thus integrating different sounds and
creating a variety of music.  Please don't hesitate to contact
her or even take some online bass lessons with her.
