In 1999, Namiko Takaba was stabbed to death in her Nagoya apartment by a woman disguised as a beverage salesperson. Her husband Satoru spent 22 million yen (£115,000) over 26 years preserving the crime scene, hoping DNA technology would identify the killer. In 2025, his former high school classmate Kumiko Yasufuku was arrested — she'd killed Namiko out of jealousy after seeing Satoru happy at a reunion. Full story of Japan's longest-preserved crime scene with crisis resources.

In February 1978, Steven Kubacki (23) disappeared whilst cross-country skiing near Lake Michigan. His footprints led to the frozen lake's edge and stopped. Authorities concluded he'd drowned. Fifteen months later, on 5 May 1979, Steven woke up in a field in Pittsfield, Massachusetts—720 miles from where he vanished—wearing unfamiliar clothes with a backpack full of maps showing travel across multiple states. He had no memory of the missing time. Medical experts suggested dissociative fugue. Steven completed his degree, earned a Ph.D. in linguistics, became a psychologist, and has refused to discuss his disappearance for decades. The case remains one of America's most baffling unexplained reappearances. Lake Michigan Triangle connection explored.

In November 2004, Skylar Deleon—a former Mighty Morphin Power Rangers child actor—murdered Tom Hawks (57) and Jackie Hawks (47) by tying them to their yacht's anchor and throwing them overboard alive off Newport Beach, California. The couple had advertised their 55-foot yacht "Well Deserved" for sale to move closer to their newborn grandson in Arizona. Deleon posed as a buyer, brought his pregnant wife and baby to gain their trust, then overpowered them during a test cruise with accomplices John Kennedy and Alonso Machain. Forced to sign ownership documents at gunpoint, the couple was duct-taped, handcuffed to a 66-pound anchor, and dragged 3,500 feet to the ocean floor whilst still alive. Their bodies were never recovered. Deleon was also convicted of murdering Jon Jarvi in 2003 after conning him out of $50,000. Sentenced to death April 2009. Wife Jennifer Henderson received life without parole. Full case details with crisis resources.

In 1996, 16-year-old Travis Lewis shot Sally Snowden McKay and her nephew Lee Baker to death during a burglary at their Arkansas estate, then set the house on fire. Sally's daughter Martha - a devout Buddhist - chose forgiveness. She visited Travis in prison for 23 years, advocated for his parole, and when he was released in 2018, gave him a job and home at the historic Snowden House bed-and-breakfast on the same property where he'd murdered her mother.
In March 2020, Martha fired Travis for stealing $10,000. Days later, he broke into Snowden House and stabbed and bludgeoned 63-year-old Martha to death at the top of the marble staircase. When police arrived, Travis jumped from an upstairs window, his getaway car got stuck in the yard, and he drowned fleeing into Horseshoe Lake. The same man murdered mother and daughter 23 years apart on the same family estate - betraying the ultimate act of forgiveness.

On Valentine's Day 2020, Hollywood sex therapist Dr Amie Harwick spent the evening at a burlesque show with friends, texting her ex-fiancé Drew Carey about reconnecting. Her ex-boyfriend Gareth Pursehouse broke into her Hollywood Hills home at 9 PM and waited four hours for her to return. When 38-year-old Amie arrived home after 1 AM, Gareth attacked her in her third-floor bedroom. Roommate Michael Herman heard bloodcurdling screams and choking from downstairs. Gareth strangled Amie, beat her as she fought back with defensive wounds on her hands, then threw her off her balcony. She died from blunt-force trauma and strangulation. Amie had restraining orders against Gareth in 2011 and 2012 for choking, suffocating, punching her, and pushing her from a moving car.
One month before her murder, they encountered each other at a red carpet event where he screamed "You ruined my life!" Amie wrote "If something happens to me, he did it." Gareth Pursehouse convicted of first-degree murder, sentenced to life without parole.

Dalontay Edmond-Geiger tortured a 60-year-old woman for hours in his Cleveland home - beating her, stabbing her arm, zip-tying her hands, smashing a TV over her head causing skull fractures, and breaking her spine. He then stuffed her folded body into a 3x3-foot plastic tote on his porch. Police checked twice - he played music to cover her moans. When they finally found her, she was paralyzed from the waist down, unable to speak. She spent a week in a coma. Now requires 24-hour care for life. Edmond-Geiger got 16-20 years.

In 1872, the merchant brigantine Mary Celeste left New York Harbor on a routine voyage to Italy. On board were Captain Benjamin Briggs, his wife Sarah, their young daughter Sophia, and a crew of seven experienced sailors. Just weeks later, the ship was found drifting in the Atlantic Ocean — fully seaworthy, cargo intact, provisions untouched… but not a single soul remained on board.
What happened during those missing days between her last log entry and her discovery by the Dei Gratia? Why would an experienced captain abandon a safe ship with food, water, and sails set for the journey ahead? Was it mutiny, piracy, a sudden storm, or something stranger that stole away ten lives without leaving a trace?
In this episode of Mysteries at Bedtime, we unravel the haunting voyage of the Mary Celeste, exploring the ship’s background, her fateful discovery, the Gibraltar investigation, and the enduring mystery that still captures imaginations nearly 150 years later.

It was an ordinary May morning in 1978 when Polish farmer Jan Wolski set out in his horse-drawn cart. By the end of that ride, he would tell a story that has haunted Emilcin ever since. He described tall, silent beings, a hovering craft without doors, and a strange medical examination that defied explanation. Wolski’s matter-of-fact account has been studied, questioned, and celebrated as one of Europe’s most extraordinary UFO cases and more than forty years later, it still refuses to fade into obscurity.
