Über diesen Podcast

WHAT DO SOUNDS WANT is a podcast about sound, or better yet, about listening through a series of questions and intuitions Radio Papesse and ALMARE have shared while working together on Life Chronicles of Dorothea Ïesj S.P.U., a sci-fi film & audio novel written and directed by ALMARE. Life Chronicles of Dorothea Ïesj S.P.U. narrates the many adventures of researcher Dorothea, as she extracts – and smuggles – sound finds from the past. It investigates the link between data capitalism, technology, and value creation, reflecting on the use of archaeological artefacts, archives, and memory as instruments for power and control. Throughout the episodes of this podcast series, with the help of artists, scholars, and researchers, we will attempt to unfold the themes behind the film. It will be an intense journey, moving between listening practices as tools to shape the world (or our perception of it), the socio-political economy of sound and data, questions about sonic fiction and sonic weapons. We’d like to invite you to challenge how you listen, and most of all… to enjoy the ride. We’ll be accompanied by guests including Brandon LaBelle, Juliette Volcler, Aura Satz, Steve Goodman, Reem Shadid, Giada Dalla Bontà, Holger Schulze, Deborah Lupton and Audrey Amsellem. This podcast is part of Life Chronicles of Dorothea Ïesj S.P.U., a project by ALMARE curated by Radio Papesse, promoted in collaboration with Timespan and produced thanks to the support of the Italian Council – a program to promote Italian art by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture, Fondazione CR Firenze and Fondazione CRT.
