diesjährigen Willy Brandt Lecture spricht die Vizepräsidentin der
Europäischen Kommission, Věra Jourová, über die Anstrengungen der
EU zur Verteidigung der Demokratie und zur Förderung europäischer
Werte in der komplexen Welt der Gegenwart – einer Welt, die
zunehmend geprägt ist von Populismus und Desinformation, von der
russischen Aggression gegen die Ukraine und von der Transformation
hin zu einer nachhaltigeren und digitaleren Wirtschaft. Věra
Jourová blickt in ihrem Vortrag auf die Maßnahmen der EU zur
Gewährung freier und fairer Wahlen zum Europäischen Parlament im
Jahr 2024, darunter der European Democracy Action Plan, das Defence
of Democracy Package sowie ihre Arbeit mit großen
Online-Plattformen und anderen relevanten Akteuren im Kampf gegen
Desinformation. Auch gibt sie Einblick in ihre Bemühungen zur
Förderung der Rechtsstaatlichkeit in der EU, ihren Nachbarländern
und weltweit. Im Anschluss diskutiert sie mit Michael Roth, dem
Vorsitzenden des Auswärtigen Ausschusses des Deutschen Bundestages.
Sie blicken dabei auf aktuelle Bewährungsproben der EU im Vorfeld
der Wahl und wie Deutschland und die EU sich diesen stellen können.

Willy Brandt Lecture, Věra Jourová, Vice-President of the European
Commission, addresses the EU’s efforts to defend democracy and
promote European values in today’s complex world – a world shaped
by rising populism and disinformation, by the Russian aggression
against Ukraine and the transition to a more sustainable and
digital economy. In her lecture, Věra Jourová focuses on the EU’s
steps to protect free and fair elections to the European Parliamant
in 2024, among them. She will highlight the European Democracy
Action plan, and the Defence of Democracy package as well as her
work with the large online platforms and other relevant actors in
the fight against disinformation. Věra Jourová also talks about her
efforts to promote the rule of law in the EU, its neighbourhood and
on a global scale. After her lecture, Věra Jourová joins Michael
Roth, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German
Bundestag for a discussion on the current challenges of the EU and
of Europa and Germany can face them. Wolfgang Thierse former
