What can you learn from an art school for your startup? Joe
Lookwood is director of Innovation at Weißensee Kunsthochschule
Berlin and is frequently asking questions to challenge the status
quo. In this podcast episode he explains the value art and design
can have for the society and economy and what differentiates Great
Britain and Scandinavia from Germany concerning their approach to
creative industries. Building intersections between creativity and
technology and engineering (or basically every other discipline
considered economically valuable) can have a tremendous impact. In
fact, one of the most successful companies ever is a design-led
organization: Apple. Joe Lockwood was active in the film industry
and run his own studio. In 2010, he co-founded and became director
of the Institute of Design Innovation at Glasgow School of Art for
over 7 years. Since 2013 he also advised different universities and
organizations, such as Audencia Business School in Nantes and
Impact Hub Berlin. Since 2020 he is Director of Innovation at
Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin (https://kh-berlin.de/). His
objective is building a ‘new economy’ - connecting people, places
and projects to build alternative solutions and renewing our
relationships between people and the planet.
