Episode two is designated to personal insight from two senior
scientists from our department, who dedicated their remarkably
successful careers to lung injury. Michael Quintel and Luciano
Gattinoni are both regarded outstanding ARDS and ECMO experts, who
helped to shape the lung injury field over the past decades,
Michael Quintel as the chair of Intensive Care Medicine and later
the whole Anaesthesia department at the Universitätsmedizin
Göttingen in Germany, and Luciano Gattinoni as the Chief of
the Hospital Department of Anaesthesia, Intensive Care and
Emergency and Medical Director in Milan, Italy. They both united
here in Göttingen after stepping down from their respective
clinical leadership positions to establish a lung injury research
group, which is thriving and quite successful. The
SARS-Cov2/COVID-19 pandemic has turned the view of many clinical
experts towards lung pathophysiology, and the expertise of our two
opinion leaders. This moderated interview will be continued.
